Apparently, in some places in Yunnan province they decorate their rooftops with these creepy clay cats/tigers that eat evil spirits and look slightly burtonesque.
This one was spotted in captivity at the Yunnan Provincial Museum in Kunming,but it was an imposing specimen anyway.

West vs East… and we both lose!
We saw them in Yunnan and they rock. I would love to have one on my roof in the US … any idea where I could get one? I didn’t see them in the markets in Lijiang.
I have no idea of where to find them but I totally agree with you. Let’s hope Yunnan craftsmen follow this blog…
